Obstruction of the Ampulla of Vater by Ectopic Pancreas in a 4 Year-old Girl

Abstract

|
The common bile duct obstruction is very rare in children. We experienced a jaundiced girl in whom percutaneous transhepotic cholangiogram revealed a polypoid mass in the ampulla of Vater obstructing the distal common bile duct and pancreatic
duct.
After transduodenal excision of the mass, patient improved. The histopathologic examination of the mass showed ectopic pancreas.
although 11 cases of bile duct obstruction by ectopic pancreas have been reported in the literature, the case reported here is the first on ever occurred in children.
